“We have seen staff approach conflict in a less threatening way.  The fear of conflict or difficult conversations has been replaced with an optimistic view of improving understanding and coming to agreement.”

Lucille Mclead, Human Resources Coordinator
Red River College

“Before attending the training I was afraid to face conflict. I would often hold back my concerns; only to let them escalate and “eat away at me”. The training has taught me to check out my assumptions with the person I’m in conflict with by asking non leading questions and then listening to better understand where they are coming from. This approach-which seemed counter intuitive at first-has empowered me to be able to move toward resolving conflicts in a way that is respectful to others, while still honouring my own need to be “understood”. The skills I learned in the training have helped me to be able to uncover what is really at the heart of the matter in conflicts I encounter at home and in the workplace. This was the most important 3 days of skill development I have ever experienced. Thank you so much to the skilled team of facilitators at Resolution Skills Centre!”

Karen Cyr, Coordinator, Community Disaster Management
Winnipeg Regional Health Authority

“How to Deal with Difficult People is an ideal course for any individual interested in improving their capacity to build positive relationships with co-workers. It was a fun course with a good mix of interaction and practical tips.”

Erin Anderson, Volunteer & Communications Coordinator
IRCOM

“Since the training I have experienced decreased stress levels at work because I feel empowered and prepared to approach difficult situations through conversation. I don’t have to be a victim of my feelings; I can do something about them just by having a conversation! More importantly, I now feel a sense of responsibility to have difficult conversations before misunderstandings get out of hand. I also enjoy feeling that I can help others by using the coaching techniques, which I’ve found can turn negative venting sessions into productive planning discussions.”

Jennifer Schick, Engineer

“There is always the potential for conflict in any relationship.  At New Directions all our work is done through relationships so providing staff with specific skills to manage interpersonal conflict well is critical.  We had noticed that often situations of a very serious nature started out as a misunderstanding or a small resentment.  Addressing issues early before they escalate is very important to the staff and our organization as a whole.   New Directions contracted with the Resolution Skills Centre to provide several days of training on how to handle interpersonal conflicts, how to manage complaints between other people, and how to deliver negative feedback in a constructive way. The training provided to all our managers, supervisors and administrative staff was excellent and the number of interpersonal difficulties escalating into serious personnel issues has diminished.  Key lessons provided by the excellent Resolution Skills Centre staff included providing us with the language and courage to enter into difficult but necessary conversations.  Staff from across New Directions have noted our improvements in managing the day-to-day realities of human interaction.  We highly value the ongoing training Resolution Skills Centre staff provide to incoming managers and supervisors.”

Jennifer Frain, Executive Director
New Directions

“Since receiving my training, my relationships with loved ones, colleagues and other people with whom I work have improved dramatically. Understanding the fundamentals of conflict resolution and mediation have enabled me to respect and value other points of view, to encourage difference and communication through open dialogue, and generally to be a more well-rounded individual.

Initially, my expectations in taking the training at Mediation Services were to develop a set of skills that changed the way I interacted with people. Yes, the training involves one’s ability to improve and learn a new set of skills in negotiations, mediation, conflict resolution, or all of the above; yet, this training has a significant ripple effect on those around us.  Mediation Services has given me the opportunity, the training and the confidence to be a positive influence in my community, in my workplace, and at home.  Without it, I don’t think I would be where I am today.”

Riel Dion, Director

“Since we have started training with Resolution Skills we have seen the value of the material, how applicable it is in our daily work as well as in our daily lives.  There has been a strong consensus that this has been the best investment in training that our organization has ever made.”
